“I WANT TO TAKE TARRAGONA TO THE DAKAR”

Marcel Quirós, owner of a mechanical workshop, went to the Tarragona motorway on many occasions to see the Dakar caravan go by, always with his tool bag. With them he helped start the motorcycles of Marc Coma, 'El Carni' and Meoni, who had run out of battery when stopping at a toll. And another year he assisted Colin McRae's Nissan V8 at another toll. Quirós always dreamed of running the Dakar but could never come up with the budget. Finally, the creation of the Dakar Classic offered him the chance of a lifetime. He decided to debut in the test in 2022 with a Lada Niva in tribute to the Lada Poch team with the aim of winning in its category and achieving what that historic car could not do in its time. He will carry a Tarragona license plate in homage to his land, choosing one of the 7 Lada Niva that he has acquired as part of the project he wants to carry out: create a powerful structure that offers the possibility of renting a car to clients who want to compete in the most hard of the world in the coming years. José Luís Serena, experienced co-driver in 4x4 racing, will accompany you as navigator.

Marcel Quirós: “When I saw the Dakar Classic, it was clear to me. It was my great opportunity to fulfill the dream of competing in the Dakar. I wanted to find a car with a lot of charisma and that's why I chose the Lada Niva, to emulate the legendary Lada Poch team. It is an economical car that has never received maintenance, it was destroyed, it was scrap, and I have completely redone it.
